Are These Blogs AI-Generated?
I had previously listed some of my favorite places on the Internet to research multi-cultural parenting, and it opened up my eyes to the sheer number of previously undiscovered websites that contain so.. much.. writing! It made me realize that quite likely, a lot of the content you find online is AI-generated, and it’s inspired me to talk about my own writing process as well as the role AI plays.
My Writing Process
The topics I write about are the ones important to me. Although ChatGPT is great at generating ideas for topics; at the end of the day, it cannot replace my own opinions of what I feel are valuable and real subjects that I feel passionate about. I’ll typically go about my usual day busting out my Notes app and jotting down blogpost ideas to visit later on in front of my laptop.
I outline my thoughts. I’ll throw together excerpts from other sources, personal anecdotes, quotes, and random thoughts. My initial drafts are a crazy mashup of cohesive paragraphs with links and half-baked sentences thrown into the mix.
I use the voice option on ChatGPT. I find that speaking, rather than typing, conveys my own style of communication most effectively. That way, when I ask it to create actual content that stitches together my outlines, they reflect how I would have manually typed things out.
I instruct AI to leave things sparse. Getting started on a blogpost has been the most challenging part. I’ll start with a generated framework to scaffold the basic structure, and put in all the “meat” myself.
The images are 100% AI-generated. I’m no artist, unless you consider prompting a form of art.
Does It Matter If a Blog is AI-Generated?
This is where things get interesting. The value of a blog often lies in the information it provides, not necessarily in who (or what) wrote it. If an AI-generated post gives you actionable tips, sparks an idea, or solves your problem, does it really matter where it came from?
That said, blogs written by humans often have a richness that AI can’t replicate. They include personal stories, cultural context, and nuances that help readers feel seen and understood. For blogs tackling deeply personal or emotional topics, like parenting in multicultural families, human connection makes all the difference.
My Take as a Blogger
As someone who blogs about multicultural parenting, I can confidently say that every word I write comes from my heart and my lived experiences. Sure, I use tools to make the process more efficient, but the ideas, stories, and emotions are all mine. I believe that readers can tell when something is authentic, and I strive to create content that feels personal and relatable.
Sidenote — my personal vendetta against AI is its love of the em dash (—). Not to sound like too much of a hipster, but I was using em dashes before AI thought they were cool! People often cite its excessive usage as a giveaway that content is AI-generated. It’s now made me reconsider using them to avoid being mistaken as a computer. This will be a tough habit to break because I’m such a fan.
Peace & Love,
The next time you’re reading a blog and wonder, “Was this written by an AI?”, remember this: what matters most is how the content makes you feel and whether it adds value to your life. While AI can produce helpful and informative content, the blogs that truly stand out are the ones that resonate with readers on a deeper level—those with a spark of humanity that no machine can replicate.
So, are these blogs AI-generated? You decide. But for me, nothing beats a personal touch.
